P H A S E - โ ( P R O L O G U E )
This is just another day at the well-known Law University of Mumbai. The lavish campus buzzes with conversations of elite students. It is break time 1:30 PM. Some students are enjoying their lunch in the canteen, some are playing basketball, while a few brilliant minds are buried inside the library, studying hard to secure the first position on the result board.
But inside that silent library, Tara sits completely still.
A book rests open on the desk in front of her while a pen rolls slowly between her fingers. Her eyes remain fixed on the pages but she is not studying at all. Her mind is stuck on last night's incident.
She was returning to the hostel from D-Mart when two men suddenly blocked her path and started misbehaving with her. Tara tried to free herself, but one of them twisted her wrist painfully, making it impossible for her to fight back.
Before they could do anything worse, a dog suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The street dog looked dangerous. Barking aggressively at them, it attacked the men and bit one of them on the leg. He hissed in pain and immediately let go of Tara's hand. The dog kept fighting both of them, giving Tara enough time to escape.
Without wasting another second, she collected her bag and the stuff she had bought from D-Mart from the ground and ran away, mumbling a quiet "thank you" to the dog before disappearing into the dark street.
She snaps back to reality when a student takes a seat opposite her and starts reading his newspaper in a low voice. She pushes those thoughts aside and tries to focus on her studies again, but suddenly something in the newspaper catches her attention.
Her eyes freeze on the headline as she reads it in her mind.
"Someone burned two men alive along with their car in front of Stars Coaching Centre at MG road."
A strange uneasiness crawls through her chest as her gaze slowly shifts toward the photographs printed below the headline. Her eyebrows twitch slightly and her eyes widen as she recognises them.
They were the same men who tried to molest her last night - and now they are both dead.
She furiously stands up from her seat, snatching the newspaper from his hands. Without wasting a second, she makes her way out of the library.
The air shifts as she walks through the long corridor. Her YSL heels click effortlessly against the white marble floor. Her sharp eyes burn with anger, fixed straight ahead, while her wavy hair moves with every step she takes.
She enters the canteen, her gaze scanning the entire place, searching for only one person - Krish Khurana.
And then she spots him.
Sitting alone at one of the tables.
A fresh wave of anger rises in her chest as she sees him. She exhales sharply and walks toward him with long, determined steps. In one swift motion, she throws the newspaper straight at his face.
"Don't be so smart, Krish, because probably you are not," she says, her voice razor-sharp, her eyes locked only on him.
Heย stretched his neck muscle before lifting his head to meet her gaze. His blue orbs met her brown ones. After some seconds he broke the silence "Really" He smirked, pressing his tongue against the inside of his left cheek as his eyes slowly traveled over her from head to toe.
"You did this, didn't you?" she asked
"What?" he said calmly.
"This." she said, showing him the newspaper headline.
His eyes scanned the newspaper in one quick glance before he leaned back against the chair, arching one eyebrow slightly.
"No. I didn't do it."
"I warn you Stop lying" she snapped, frustration clear in her voice. "Last night they tried to molest me, and it hasn't even been twenty-four hours since that incident happened... and now both of them are dead."
His eyes darkened The moment those words left her mouth. He stood up abruptly from the chair and took a step closer to her.
Then another.
The distance between them disappeared within seconds.
"They misbehaved with you..." he whispered dangerously, his jaw tightening. "and you didn't even tell me?"
"That was none of your concern, okay?" she shot back immediately.
His expression hardened and a low chuckle escaped from his mouth. He moved even closer, his intense gaze locked on her face.
"Your brother has given me your responsibility," he says in a low voice filled with something dangerous... something lethal. "It is my responsibility to keep you safe. My friend trusts me with you in this fucking university, Estrella. You think some bastards touch you and I stay unaware of it?" He takes another step closer, his eyes dark with rage. "You should've told me the moment it happened, yet you still don't think it's important enough to tell me?"
"So that means you really didn't do it..." she murmured, her expression shifting from anger to fear.
"What? Did you hide something from me, Estrella?" he snapped looking at her pale face.
"I have a stalker" the fear clearly visible in her eyes, her voice barely audible.
He gave no reaction. He simply stood there, hands tucked into his pockets, staring at her. Not even a flicker of surprise crossed his face. But there was something on his lips he couldn't hide-a look that suggested he already knew who the stalker was.
"For the past two weeks, wherever I go, I keep finding white lilies waiting for me." she continued.
He listened calmly to every word, as if none of it was new information to him. Tara swallowed hard and ran a trembling hand across her forehead, pushing her hair back in frustration.
"I also got some messages from an unknown number. At first, I thought it was some random online scammer, but now I think it's the same person who's been leaving those lilies."
"Should I punish you for not telling me this... Mi Estrella?" he growled, his eyes darkening. "Show me your phone."
She stared at him for a moment before pulling her phone from her pocket. Opening the messages she had received from the unknown number, she handed it to him.
He went through every message carefully before transferring the number and profile details
ls to his own phone. Returning her phone, he said,
"Don't worry. I'll take care of it."
